The list of threats is long: destructive fishing, waste dumping, oil and chemicals, use of submarines acoustic devices, military activity, invasion of alien species, climate change impacts, sand mining or construction material, exploitation of hydrocarbons, urban sprawl along the coast, are some of the examples.

killes a million sea birds, 100,000 marine mammals and countless fish! In the last decade an average of 600,000 barrels of oil has been accidentally spilled per year.
The populations of large fish such as tuna, cod and swordfish have
declined to 90% in the last century.
There is a real and tested threat on sharks.
Annually a 100 million (270,000 per day) of sharks worldwide are killed and
some species are endangered, if it gets to that , we would have severe consequences for life’s on the surface.
